May 5 Range Use Update

Members please note the following latest range use update.

The clubs executive body has decided that use of the range is limited to six persons only maximum  at a time AND that this use is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY with Phil AND you will be expected to do some maintenance work for this privilege.  His mobile number is 0427599823.  See attached letter.SSAA (Qld.) Inc. Advice on reopening Ranges from 2 May 2020

The scheduled shoots can be ignored until further notice.   Provided that Phil can accommodate your attendance, he indicates that  any day of the week is fine, but he will not be available between the 14th and 19th of May.

It should also be noted that if you are living outside the 50 klm distance, the voluntary maintenance work that you do on the range should satisfy travel justification. Phil can provide use of the clubs guns if you wish to shoot after work of course.

Note that range use is for members only, no visitors or unlicensed persons are permitted at this time, or use of the kitchen.  Maintaining social distance and hygiene is vital, this can not be forgotten.

Please refrain from accessing the range if you have any signs of illness, notably fever or coughing, and when there remember that the toilet is also part of someone’s home.

As we are a club and our executive body is elected by the members, it is reasonable to give all members the right to express opinion when the use of our range is varied.  Therefore, comments have been enabled on this post.

Visitor, Unlicensed not allowed

For clarity, it needs to broadcast that the aforementioned post should have included that Visitors and Unlicensed Persons are not permitted to use the range at this time.

This was done with the purpose of deliberately keeping the numbers down, so that club members could benefit from being able to use their ranges.  It is reasonable to assume from this that even bringing  along a friend who is not shooting is not in keeping with this directive.  Please read the link in the previous post.

Range Open Again with conditions

As of May 2, we have received notice from SSAA Brisbane, that we can open and use the range, WITH A FEW CONDITIONS.  Notably that we are obliged to comply with the latest Qld Health Direction.

Brisbane SSAA has stipulated that organised competitions are not allowed.  There is no mention of disorganised competitions, so personal discretion needs to be exercised, although it does state that personal competition practice is fine.

Also it does point out that if you live further than 50 klm from the range then you are basically out of luck.  Your range officer, or the clubs executive body may require other conditions.  Be prepared to have your temperature checked, put on a face mask, don a protective suit, and of course wash your hands before and after filling out the paperwork, handing over your range dues, and using the pen. 🙂

See the letter below from SSAA Brisbane for more information.

Coronavirus Changes to Range

Members and Guests please be advised that due to the measures needed to combat this virus, the following will be in effect until further notice.

All scheduled shoots are suspended.  All government direction must be followed pertaining to any private use of the range in addition to the Standing Orders for range use.

We all need to take this pandemic seriously.  It is an invisible invader and will make its way into our homes and families unless we use our heads, change our habits, and keep our distance from one another.  It is the only way to defeat it, as it can only spread from person to person or via person/ residue/ person.

Target shooting is great fun, and it’s going to be quite a challenge to refrain, but this might be with us up to a year or longer .  If you have alternative avenues, such as a mate on a large property, try looking at shooting at pesky pigs or even hunting paper circles.

Hard enough to lose our jobs, but to lose our entertainment, that’s bloody rough.

Sorry

Police notice to all shooters

Members please be advised that on 20 Jan the webmaster received a phone call from the Proserpine police station.  The officer stated that there have been some recent gun thefts in the area, and he supplied a pdf giving information on securing your firearms.

That pdf is attached. Any further information on this matter will be posted promptly. FirearmsStorage
