Working Bee Date Change this weekend

Hello fellow shooters, sorry but in the last email the date for the working bee should have been Saturday 30/9/23 and not the 23/9/23 as previously stated.

This weekend we have Pistol Metal Silhouette on Saturday 23rd followed by Lever Action on Sunday 24th.

At the working bee next weekend, we hope to splash some paint on the strong room walls, gurney the toilets and shower block and install 5 new toilet roll holders that will stop the paper from unrolling due to the wind. Of course, there is always target frames that need repair.

Hoping to see you all out there.

Kind regards

Peter Steers

Shoot Canceled 28 Jan

Due to rains, Peter has advised this morning that the Standard Target shoot is cancelled. He stated that the Metallic Sillouette shoot is still on tomorrow, but that is subject to conditions then.

Range Closed

Members please note. Unfortunately due to heavy rain, the Target Shoot tomorrow 15 Jan. will not be held, nor the monthly meeting. Peter has also emailed out all members on his list, however there are some members not on his list, and also some members not on the website list. We will attempt to merge these two in the near future.

Range Temporary Closure

This is a notice that the range will be closed until Tuesday 18/1 due to earthworks at the site.

There will be no pistol shoot as scheduled this weekend, but the shoot should be held on Weds afternoon.

COVID UPDATE DEC 2021 CORRECTION

The below update issued yesterday is apparently incorrect. You can disregard. Until further notice it is business as normal. Due to the exponential increase of infection by this virus, you can probably expect further changes, please stay aware of new posts. The club executives are doing their best to keep the range available to all possible, but it should be understood that the safety and availability for members takes priority over non members or visitors. Apologies for any confusion.

Ignore the following: It is regrettable, but due to Covid restrictions, VISITORS AND NON MEMBERS OF SSAA, are not allowed to attend or shoot at the range until we get the all clear from SSAA.

Range Closure 1 week

Members please take note. The ADF is using the range this week, from tomorrow Monday 19, to the following Monday 26 July.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but all shoots during this period are canceled.

Brian Schwarz

At the far too early age of 74 we lost one of our long term members  Brian Rex Schwarz , 12/2020, a soldier till 1984 with the S.A.S and a Vietnam veteran of two tours, he leaves behind his wife and family , he will be sadly missed ..RIP Brian .A memorial service will take place when the covid restrictions allow interstate travel……”stand down soldier your mission is complete”

Call first

Hello Everyone,

Please be advised that Phil wants all shooters intending on shooting at the range to give him a call beforehand. His number is 0427599823.

A new calendar will be posted before the end of December. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year.

Shoot 7th Nov, 21 Nov

All members please note. The calendar had a typo for this Saturdays shoot. It gives Pistol, then Bench Rest.

The shoot this Sat, 7 Nov. will be a pistol shoot, and most likely a Target Pistol, but we can decide on the day if more shooters favour another match.

The shoot scheduled on Nov, 21 also has to be changed, as there is no Blowin Bowen comp this year due to Covid. What type of match will be worked out at the previous weekend Meeting, but it will be a pistol shoot on the 21rst, otherwise the schedule stands with rifle shooting as listed.

Also note that under current Covid conditions, we can accommodate up to 20 persons at the range at any shoot, and the stipulation to call Phil beforehand has been dropped.

Happy shooting.

Amendment to July 4 Update

Please note that Phil has requested that anyone planning to attend a shoot to call him prior to arrival.  This is to make sure that we have a maximum of 20 persons on the range.

His phone number is 0427599823.

Range Update July4

Good news everyone.  As a result of the latest health directive, SSAA Qld has determined that we can now use the range for competitions, subject to a few restrictions.

As of today, you can use the Calendar of Events that was set out last January, and which can be relied on once again.  There is a target pistol scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 5th.

Note however that a maximum of 20 persons must be adhered to.  Visitors and non members are once again permitted subject to the normal requirements .   It appears self evident that quite a few people are forgetting what social distancing, and good hygiene did to avert a disaster.   It is also evident what happens when that is forgotten.

Please be vigilant.  It is good to have the range back, we don’t want to lose the use of it again.

Update to Range Use May 30

In accordance with restrictions being eased across the board the following applies to the range as of today.

There are still no competition shoots allowed, this is coming from SSAA headquarters and not a decision of the local executives.  However we can still hold shoots of the same type and structure, but they are practice shoots.  Weapons licensing have made it clear that they will not revoke anyone’s license due to ranges not able to function.

You can refer to the calendar then as reference to what type of shoot will be held on a given day, and whether it is pistol or rifle.  There was a mistake made on whether pistol or rifle today the 30th, but it is a rifle shoot, with the pistol western action tomorrow 31 May.  Every Weds. night is still on starting at 4 PM.

Note that there is still a 10 person limit of shooters on the line at a time.  No non members or visitors at this time on the range.  If you are a rifle shooter and hold a valid national SSAA membership, you can shoot.  However if you intend to shoot pistol you must be a Bowen branch member.  You can join on the spot if you have a current national SSAA card.

Also it must be emphasized that hygiene must not be neglected.  The virus is still out there, just not as prevalent or menacing as before, but vigilance is still a preferred option than having our range shut down if a case is linked to it.  The kitchen is still off limits, bring everything you need yourself, even a pen, and the correct change for range fees.  Remember that the range is Phil”s home.

If you have any questions, it is best to contact the relevant Discipline Captain of any shoot that you intend to attend.
